Paul Edmonds treatment list: Solutions for every hair need (2024)

Our hair needs are constantly changing.

With so many internal and external factors that can affect our strands, from health and nutrition to weather and pollution, it's understandable if you've got greasy hair one day and frizzy hair the next.

And while a decent home haircare routine is essential, some issues require some extra help.

"There's only so much that home products can do," says Matilda Marshall, director at Paul Edmonds London.

"Sometimes you need something more intensive, a stronger dose that's delivered all in one go at the salon."

That's why we offer a wide range of hair treatments from a variety of premium brands.

"We have a treatment for everybody and every concern, from the scalp to the hair and the colour," says creative director Alfie Oneill, explaining that the choice of treatment depends on the condition of the hair and the desired outcome.

"If someone comes in with long, healthy hair and wants their blow-dry to last but hasn't got much time I might do a quick Kérastase Fusio Dose or a Davines Naturaltech shot. if someone's come in because their hair's all broken off then they need more of a treatment plan."

At Paul Edmonds, we've got three main levels of treatment intensity to choose from, and a range of bespoke options within each, targeting everything from dryness and frizz to colour fade and breakage.

Here, the team talk through our complete hair treatment list and how to choose the one that's right for you…

Quick-fix treatments

Offering higher-strength ingredients than home haircare products, our entry-level treatments are fast-acting and target a range of everyday concerns.

Kérastase Fusio Dose and Davines Naturaltech are five-minute treatments that combine two different 'shots' according to your hair needs. They're applied at the backwash, with the effects lasting in the hair for about four to eight washes.

"The base shot is chosen according to your primary hair concern because it's slightly stronger, then we choose the second shot by the secondary concern," Matilda explains.

"With Kérastase Fusio Dose there are shots for strength, moisture, anti-frizz, collagen, anti-hair fall, curl, shine, and a purple one for blonde hair. Davines Naturaltech has shots for moisture, volume, shine, strength, colour, control and brightening blonde hair."

You'll also get a relaxing head massage while your tailored double-shot treatment is working its magic on your tresses.

Creative director Julie Harper recommends the colour-protecting shots: "You can use them with a colour appointment for locking in the shine for brunettes, redheads, and coppers. They're great for clients who don't want anything to weigh their hair down."

Another alternative for maintaining coloured hair is the L'Oreal Metal Detox treatment, which is designed for hard water areas such as London.

"Metal particles in water can over time accumulateand affect the hair's integrity which can destabilise the hair structure when undergoing an oxidative process like colouring services, Metal detox is designed to remove thebuild up of metal particles preventing damage, breakage and improving condition significantly"Julie says.

"The Metal Detox spray goes onto the hairso the formula attaches to the metal particles, then after the colour service you use a shampoo and mask from the Metal Detox rangewhich removes the metal particles from the hair, leaving the hair structure integrity intact. It takes about five minutes in total."

The best quick-fix for dull or frizzy hair is a clear glaze from Redken, Matilda says: "Also called a gloss, it lasts about four weeks. The same way you put a top coat on your nails, it seals the hair cuticle and makes it really shiny."=

Hair repair treatments

The next step up, hair repair treatments penetrate deeper into the hair shaft and have longer-lasting results, and are particularly helpful for people who have their hair bleached or coloured regularly.

We offer two bond-building treatments at Paul Edmonds, Olaplex and Innoluxe, which work to repair broken protein bonds within the hair.

"They can be mixed in with the colour or applied after," Julie says. "My clients who have bleach(prelightener services)on their hair usually like to have it mixed in, it keeps the hair strong while you're lifting it."

If the bond-builder is applied after the colour, Innoluxe is left on for 10 minutes and Olaplex is left on for 20 minutes. Generally, bond builder services will slightly extend appointment times as they are working to counteract the otherwise damaging effect of oxidative processes on the hair structure.

Also a medium-strength treatment, Redken SAM is a three-step treatment that starts with shampoo and conditioner formulated to bring hair to its optimal pH level, followed by an acidic repairing concentrate.

"As with the bond-building treatments it can be applied with colour or after," Julie says. "For clients who are worried about sensitised hair or breakage we're making sure the hair says strong even after having strong chemicals on it."

Intensive hair treatments

In cases of very badly damaged hair, you may need an extra-strength treatment or series of treatments.

"If your hair is breaking off because of colour or heat damage then we have more intensive treatments and we may recommend a plan of one every two or three weeks," Alfie says.

"Sometimes as well if people are ill then certain medications make their hair fragile," Matilda says. "The Ultimate Protein Repair (UPR) treatment is for people whose hair is brittle and snapping to make it stronger again."

First, a protein-rich formula is applied to the hair. Next, the solution is heated with a hairdryer until it hardens, then it's rinsed, ready for step two.

"Step two is an instant moisture rebalance, because hair is made up of protein and moisture, and if it contains too much protein it can become dry," Matilda explains. "Step two is left on for five minutes to help to balance out the moisture."

For badly damaged hair we recommend alternating the UPR treatment every two weeks with the Collagen Infusion Treatment or a moisturising Fusio Dose or Naturaltech shot.

"Some people don't need the UPR at all, their hair is just lacking in moisture, so we'll just go for collagen treatment," Matilda says.

"The collagen-rich formula is applied to the hair then it goes under the heat for about 25 minutes to half an hour, so it's more of an intense treatment."

If issues such as oily hair, flakiness or an irritated scalp have been bothering you, book in for a 45-minute Scalp Detox Treatment, where a stylist will use a tricho camera to closely examine your scalp to identify the source of the problem or advise if you need to seek advice from a health professional.

Next, they will apply a scalp-soothing product and finish by washing your hair.

Matilda says: "We tailor the treatment around the client's concerns. I usually use an Oway treatment product to tackle things like sensitivity, dandruff or an oily scalp, then I will look again on the camera to see the before and after effect."
